Platform Computing Selects TechniCon for E-Commerce Project

Platform To Begin First Phase of a Proposed Comprehensive Product Configuration and Sales System
For Immediate Release
EMERYVILLE, CA, October 7, 2002 - Platform Computing, the world's leading distributed computing software provider, has selected TechniCon, a leading provider of e-commerce solutions, to implement the requirements gathering and scoping phase of a proposed comprehensive product configuration and sales system.
Platform had a number of key requirements in selecting an e-commerce system provider. The proposed selection and configuration tools had to allow users to quickly and simply specify the correct products for their needs. Additionally, the sales system has to tie into Platform's existing infrastructure without requiring any customization of the ERP and CRM systems that could significantly impact the cost of future system upgrades.
"We selected TechniCon because they have better Web-based product configuration than their competitors," explained Mike May, CIO, Platform Computing. "They can also provide a system that will easily integrate with our SAP and Siebel systems."
TechniCon's process-based project methodology breaks an e-commerce project into three phases. The process is iterative in nature. Systems are developed incrementally with increasing degrees of detail and refinement. This approach assures a quality product while minimizing surprises that can impact the schedule and budget.
The primary deliverable for this first phase is a document defining the system requirements and scope of work necessary to complete the proposed sales system. The system architecture that best balances technology risks with cost and schedule considerations is also identified. As part of the scoping process, TechniCon will generate a "paper" model of the system, which allows both parties to readily visualize the system and to discuss and refine its requirements and specifications.
"Today, manufacturers must give their customers quick access to the product information they need to make fast and educated decisions," said Anthony Mirante, President of TechniCon. "We look forward to working closely with Platform's team to analyze and precisely define their requirements as a first step to achieving this goal."
